On last night’s “Motor City Masters,” the competition show on Tru-TV hosted by Brooke Burns, is searching for the next top automotive designer. Last week, the second competitor, Troy left the competition leaving eight left to battle it out.

The competition between two teams of car designers, will send another designer home as they search for the next great designer from the team of Chevrolet and Tru-TV. But first, the individual challenge to find the two team leaders who will compete and choose their teams.

To get started, the group was brought to a California beach. For the individual challenge, each member had a tonneau cover for a Chevy Silverado. A tonneau cover protects the bed of a pick-up truck, and by designing theirs, they will show what the beach lifestyle means to them. The top two finishers will be the leader of their team, and the winner will be safe from elimination.

They had two hours to complete the task, and each got to work and at the end of the two hours; the winners were, Darby and Joann, and the winner who was safe from elimination was Darby.

For the team challenge, the mission was to create “The Ultimate Beach Vehicle” using a Silverado, that must have side paneling.

Both women find that dealing with male egos can be difficult. Joann gets no respect from her team, and when Jean comes into question her, she has no answers for her. After being on the bottom both times, she avoids making decisions, especially about color. Darby, is locking horns with Doc, who wants to charge ahead with his plans, but Darby wants to put it on a sketch and take it from there. When Jean questions Darby, she has definitive answers and an affirmative way of handling Doc, who Camilo feels does not know what he is doing. As time is running out, Joann’s team is placing the wood paneling on the yellow and gray truck.

When it was time to present their vehicles, Brooke introduced the guest judge, pro surfer Malia Jones, who should know what a surf truck should look like. Darby presented her truck first, a blue and green paneled truck that holds surfboards on the panels. Joann’s truck seemed to be accepted by the judges more favorably than Darby’s, but after the teams were dismissed, they judges conferred.

When the announcement was made, Darby’s team won because they used the paneling more creatively. Of the four, Bryan and Jameson were safe, and the last two were Joann and Shane, but can Joann’s third time on the bottom be a charm or put her out of the game? When Shane had to defend himself, he had little to say, as he had all along. Joann blamed herself for being project manager and stated that she had the paneling in her hands, but let the men’s opinion override hers. Although she was eliminated, Shane was warned that his lackadaisical attitude must change, and he had better start becoming a team player on this episode of “Motor City Masters.”
