Faithful, fierce and fabulous
Collage by Louis Hubbard

Sunday, May 11, 2014 is Mother’s Day in Atlanta and around the country. Mother’s Day is about honoring motherhood. Past, present and future mothers. Throughout the world, the day is celebrated on different days and months. Mother’s Day is a springtime occasion, April-May. Argentina celebrates the special day in October. The northern hemisphere honor mothers in May. In the United States the holiday is celebrated on the second Sunday in May.

Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908. A lady by the name of Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia. Her crusade to make ‘Mother’s Day’ a recognized holiday in the United States began in 1905, the year Anna’s mother Ann Reeves Jarvis, died.

Mothers are faithful, fierce and fabulous women. They deserve a very special day and more. Mother’s will be lavished with gifts, candy, poems, flowers, events, concerts, and special brunches on their day.

In Atlanta Kenya Malene and her reknown Amazing Grace Dancer Company will celebrate Mother’s Day at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, May 11, 2014. Center Stage, 1374 West Peachtree St. NW. Atlanta, GA 30309. They will present ‘Life’ on Mother’s Day.

For more information contact for ticket information. We raise our glasses, give a high five, dance a jig, and a standing ovation to the lady we love and celebrate. Happy Mother’s Day to all the glamorous mothers. Welcome to Atlanta.

‘Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love.’

-Stevie Wonder
