Motherhood across the United States and in your Utica backyard

While upstate New Yorkers are trying to stay warm and be creative when it comes to their children, there are some mothers who are having different weather.  The possibilities are endless if you aren't planning an outdoor picnic in Utica on January 20th!  But if you want to call your friends in other states, ask them what their plans are for the day.  You might be surprised at what they do on their winter days.

Tricia Onufer's two boys are lucky living in Bellaire, Texas, where the temperature today was nearing 80 degrees!  Evan, 3, and Luke, 20 months, got to run outside in their t-shirts while bug-catching with jars!  Good thing Tricia is young, and young-at-heart, to keep up!

While over in the suburbs of St. Paul, Minnesota, Sara Allie's two girls, Madison, 3, and Morgan, 21 months, got a nice day of snuggling on the couch with mommy while watching a movie.  It was a bone-chilling 11 degrees and too cold to go outdoors.

Building an indoor fort and playing construction workers is what Julie Hooper's two older boys, Henry, 3, and Sam, 2, did today, in Kansas City, Missouri where the temperature hit a high of 33 degrees.  Julie's youngest son, Charlie, 8 months, "played the wrecking ball," she said.

Jamie Jackson is very brave and let her two young kids, Kaylee, 3, and Connor, 18 months, use finger paints.  It's what she calls a "be-creative-because-it-is-cold-outside" day, when it's cloudy and 36 degrees in Lexington, Kentucky.

In Whidbey Island, Washington, is Krista Lee, who is mom to Lucas, 3, and Poppy, 2.  The temperature climbed to 42 degrees but felt like 29.  "We had a rare snow storm but today the weather changed and things started to melt," said Krista.  "So, we did lots of running around and built two snowmen," she added.

Lastly, Kim Johnson is the mom of Kayleigh, 3, and Karissa, 12 months, living in Westmoreland, New York, which was a miserable 19 degrees.  Unfortunately, due to being sick and fighting fevers, the girls had to stay home today to rest and relax.

Mothers are always coming up with the best ideas for their kids based on the weather in their neighborhood. Sometimes you need a day to sit on the couch and watch a movie, go build a snowman, build a fort out of blankets or paint until your fingers are blue and pink.  Whatever you decide to do, just have fun.
