On Friday night just before 11, the police were called to the 500 block of North 23rd street after people in the home reported that a 23-year old woman was in pain and needed EMS. The unidentified woman was later arrested after the police discovered that she threw her newborn baby boy out the window of her 2nd story window. On Monday, the woman posted bail. Investigators are waiting for toxicology and other tests to confirm the baby’s cause of death before filing criminal charges. The baby was only a few hours old when the mother tossed him out the window. Afterwards, the woman had gone about her day as if nothing happened. Apparently, several people were in the house on the first floor but nobody was aware that the woman was giving birth upstairs. The Southern Illinois Child Death Investigative Task Force is also investigating, along with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. DCFS received a hotline call about this death just before 3 am on September 28th. DCFS says the woman has no other children and there are no other children in the house.
