When a mother slaps the bride at the wedding while heavily under the influence of alcohol and the police are called, this makes headline news. According to ABC News on Oct.17, a Connecticut woman attending her daughter’s wedding in Massachusetts and she was so intoxicated that the bride, who is her daughter, helped escort her out of the wedding reception.
Leslie Duane, 55, of West Haven Connecticut became intoxicated after the wedding ceremony of her daughter and caused a scene at the Arabian Horse Farm in Sudbury. The bride and several of the wedding guests escorted Duane out of the reception and put her in a car so she could be driven home.
It was while the bride was helping her mother into the car that this woman slapped her newlywed daughter. Apparently the police were called because Duane ended up behind bars and her daughter wanted to bail her out, but the court put a “no contact order” in place so she wouldn’t go near or try and contact the daughter she had assaulted. She was eventually freed on $200 bail. Duane did plead guilty to assault and battery.
This looks like one wedding story that will pass down through the generations for a long time to come. It is not known if Duane had a motive for slapping her daughter the bride or if she was just so inebriated that no motive was needed. The bride and groom's name has not released.
Duane’s lawyer who is unnamed in the ABC article, told the media that the daughter tried to bail her mother out. The lawyer said that the no contact order “is too much.” Apparently he believes that the court went overboard keeping the mother away from the daughter.
