With a warm welcome from the staff and the coziness feel of the space, Mother's Bistro certainly makes you feel like you have been invited over to the chef's home for breakfast.
Voted as a top breakfast spot in Portland with over 900 reviews and a solid 4 stars out of 5 rating, expectations were high, especially with Mother's promise of delivering food "like mom's cooking, only a bit better."
Some of Mother's dishes include:
- Biscuit Breakfast (homemade buttermilk biscuits topped with country sausage gravy, served with two eggs any style)
- Stuffed Frittata (open-faced omelet with bacon, cheddar cheese & potatoes, topped with sour cream & green onions)
- Crunchy French Toast (thick slices of challah bread, dipped in cornflakes & grilled golden brown)
Breakfast was reminiscent of a home-cooked meal, but not better than my mother's. While it's difficult to measure up to my mom's cooking, it's definitely nice to have a place in downtown Portland that can deliver the feeling of home.
What's unique about Mother's is its M.O.M. program. Every month, a real mom is nominated and selected to be featured as Mother’s M.O.M. (Mother of the Month). The program highlights recipes from mothers around the world, offering patrons with a special M.O.M. menu each month.
Although the menu is for lunch and dinner, it is worth mentioning here because moms are the best.
Breakfast at Mother's is served 7-2:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and from 8-2:30 p.m. Saturday & Sunday.
