The Minneapolis Institute of the Arts is offering several special activities for Mother's Day, including a series of children's activities that leave Mom free to go see the grown-up exhibits. Mom can participate in a Japanese tea ceremony, enjoy a harp performance, and even tour the Purcell-Cutts house, a Prairie-School style building.
- Give Mom a special treat by taking her to the Mother's Day smorgasbord at the Swedish American institute. Seating is at 12 or at 4 pm, cost is $28/per adult, $9 for children 6-11 and free for kids under 6. Treat Mom to treats like caviar, fresh fruit, Swedish sausages and smoked salmon. Reservations must be in by Friday, May 9. If you take your mother to the noon event, stick around for the book signing "I Go to America."
- You can take Mom to the Science Museum of Minnesota - all moms get in free with one paid admission. Help her indulge her racecar-driver dreams with the Super Speedway exhibit.
- Looking for a gorgeous Mother's Day gift? Take a look at museum gift shops, both online and at your favorite museum. You can find handbags, one of a kind jewelry, books and plenty of unusual objets d'art for your favorite mom.
