Mother’s Day also celebrates mothers we have lost

While many are taking time to find the perfect gift to give to a special mother in their life, others are taking time to remember a mother who has passed on.  There are studies that suggest taking time to remember a loved one can be healthy in many ways.

As a mother I am grateful for having two healthy children to share Mother’s Day with. I have also experienced the pain and sorrow of losing a mother. There are days where it still hurts because there is nothing like the love and caring nature of a mother.

By adopting a tradition to do something in memory of a loved one who has passed on you can still appreciate them while acknowledging they have moved on. For example, many people will visit cemeteries on Mother’s Day such as Mount Peace on Aqueduct Street in Akron to lay flowers on their mother’s grave and enjoy a few peaceful moments of remembering her during happier times.

Remembering a mother can be a somber time not just for adults but for children as well, especially if they experienced the tragedy of loss as a child.  Children and adults alike find the subject complicated but talking about it and even shedding a few tears can help sooth open wounds.
