An Ontario mother received an anonymous letter from someone in her neighborhood regarding how much noise her child makes when he is outside. The problem is that the letter was hate-filled and even recommended that Karla Begley euthanize her autistic son, Max, per a Gawker report on Aug. 19, 2013.
Begley's son Max is 13-years-old and suffers from severe autism. The letter sent to the family is signed, "one p*ssed off mother" and berates Begley for even letting her son outside to play.
"You selfishly put your kid outside everyday and let him be nothing but a nuisance and a problem to everyone else with that noise polluting whaling (sic) he constantly makes!!! That noise he makes when he is outside is DREADFUL!!!!!!!!!! It scares the hell out of my normal children!!!!!!"
The letter was tweeted and shared and went viral almost instantly once it was seen online. Musicians Lennon and Maisy tweeted it out, and it got retweeted over 5,000 times.
Begley's family was shocked by the letter.
"I was shaking when I was reading it," said Max's grandmother, Brenda Millson. She takes care of Max during the summer and the letter arrived at her home this past Friday.
The letter got much worse than the small snippet above with the author saying that Begley had "a retarded kid" and that she should "deal with it...properly!!!!!" The letter also called for the family to euthanize the boy and for the family to "go live in a trailer in the woods or something with your wild animal kid!!!"
Begley says that her neighbors have rallied around her and she has the support of almost the entire community as attempts are made to find the person that wrote the letter. If Begley does find her, she says she will file criminal charges against her.
