New York hard rock band Mother is set to release their sophomore EP, ‘A New Life,’ this Friday, March 14. To coincide with the release, the band will be throwing a massive EP release show at Mercury Lounge that same night.

‘A New Life’ is a full-throttle rock EP from start to finish. The EP starts out strong with single “Dying Day,” and maintains that energy until the very last song. Even the final track, “To Live Within,” with its beautiful piano intro and outro, fits well into the EP’s pace. The EP really shows what the band is capable of, mixing bluesy vocals with metal guitars and steady rhythm.

“The main attitude and feeling behind the EP all coincides with the title 'A New Life,’ says drummer Marshall Castaneda of the EP. “It's about a second coming, a new beginning... We communicate that our own way... loud and aggressive."

Mother formed in 2011 when vocalist Nick Fargo and bassist Johnny Bass, after the dissolution of their previous band, Zodiac, met guitarist Mike Gowen. After joining up with Castaneda in 2013, the band was complete and ready to rock.

The band released its debut EP, ‘Dissonant Young,’ in 2012. In February, the band put out a lyric video for “Dying Day.”

Other bands playing that night will be Tempest City, Midnight Mob, Race to Dawn, and Kid Felix.

The show will be "NYC rock at its finest!” says Castaneda. “We're playing alongside our friends, which is such an honor. And with having Sailor Jerry sponsor the show, you just know it's going to be a night to remember... Or not remember at all!"

Tickets for Friday’s 21+ show are $12 in advance and $15 day of show. Doors will open at 7 PM.
