Mother of the bride or groom ensembles

As the mother of the bride or groom, you’re constantly giving input and helping your child with their wedding planning and attire. Now that the bride has her dress, the groom his tux, and the wedding party attire is complete, what should your ensemble. Be? What should a Cleveland mother of the bride or groom wear to the wedding? A view helpful tips is as follows…

If the wedding is casual, the mother of bride/groom does not need to wear a dress. The ensemble could be a pantsuit as well. However, do not dull down your appearance too much, you are still the mother and should look gorgeous and feel comfortable as the light will shine upon you as the mother of a newly wed. This does not mean it is acceptable to get a very sexy dress. It could offend the bride and leave her feeling upstaged. It is her day, not yours but you can still look beautiful and not overly conservative on the day of this special occasion.

The mother of the bride/groom should respectively consult the bride before purchasing her dress. Despite the fact you are the parental and have been in charge of your child for the majority of their life, sometimes the bride might have some opinions for the ensemble chosen by the mother. For instance, the bride may like coordination with the bridesmaids’ dresses to have a matchy-matchy feel for the wedding or play off the same color scheme. An example would be lavender bridesmaids’ dresses and the mother of bride preferred in a deep purple or violet color.  The bride may also be against this coordination and wish the mother of bride or groom to wear a different color. Most often, the bride will be against a color of white or ivory so the spotlight isn’t swayed from attention on her. Black, while classic, is still seen as a sign of mourning when worn by the mother, even though the bridesmaids may be wearing that color. Red can be too sultry and again takes attention away from the bride. Therefore, Cleveland mothers, consult the bride on color. Black and red can be done in good taste but it’s the bride’s opinion on what color she would like you to avoid.

Ultimately, it is best to stay away from the white and ivory colors unless the bride permits it. If the bride is unsure as to what color would be best for your outfit think of silver, blue and/or lavender colors. These colors cannot go wrong and usually look flattering with every skin tone.

While you help your Cleveland son or daughter plan their wedding, don’t put off getting a dress or pantsuit, for yourself, to the last minute. Inform the bride of your choices and/or ideas then start looking right away. If the bride has opinions about what she would prefer you didn’t wear, keep in mind this doesn’t mean you have to get the traditional mother of bride/groom look. You can still look stylish, conservative, and gorgeous in something within her idea of what she likes. In the end, you should feel comfortable and beautiful, just as should anyone else participating or attending the wedding.
