A mother of five described as ‘disturbed’ stabbed her 9-year-old daughter to death Sunday afternoon. Today the DPD applied for a warrant for charges against the woman, having declared the killing a homicide after the M.E.’s report.
The killing occurred early Sunday morning at the Martin Luther King Apartments in the 2200 block of East Larned in Detroit’s east side.
No names have been released by the police.
The mother stabbed her daughter once in the chest following an argument with the child’s father.
Neighbors heard blood-curdling screams; some entered the unit, where the door was wide open.
One saw the child’s body evidently dead on the floor. She also observed the mother trying to revive her child by punching and kicking her.
Police witnessed some of this activity when they arrived. They arrested the woman.
While charges have not yet been filed, the mother is expected to be arraigned on homicide charges later this week.
She has several other kids, all under 7, and they will be cared for by the Child Protective Services.
