There are some things in life that you simply should not take your four-month-old baby to do, like going to a rave. On Feb. 6 The Relationship Cafe reports that a 41-year-old mother took her four-month-old to a rave, supposedly to see her daughter perform on stage. The mother put headphones on her son, Django, to help block the noise.
Party goers were not happy that the mother brought her newborn to the rave where they were all enjoying loud techno music and flashing lights. Most realize that flashing lights like those at a rave can cause seizures in infants if subjected to them for long periods of time. The mother, Sarah-Jane Hulme, says that she breastfeeds her son, therefore, she can take him anywhere with her and doesn't see anything negligent in her behavior. She claims that she couldn't leave him with anyone because he has to be fed every couple of hours. Most parents know that this isn't true, because she could have pumped if she was planning on going out.
Furthermore, the mother says that police checked her for drugs several times and never mentioned anything about taking the baby with her. Several people complained about the baby being in the loud nightclub and the police showed up at 12:30 a.m. to question her. They shut the whole rave down, but Ms. Hulme had left before they arrived, never having talked to the police. She defends her decision of taking her infant son to the nightclub and says that it was actually the third time she has done so. The local police are not talking to social services about the incident.
