On Wednesday morning, a two-year-old pit bull mix named "Lou Lou," was killed, as were her three newborn puppies.
Lou Lou was owned by an irresponsible person who not only failed to spay her, they allowed her to become pregnant and then, just days before she delivered her puppies, that person dumped her at an already over-crowded California animal control facility.
For nearly a month, Lou Lou sat at the facility with her puppies, attempting to nurture a family in a situation which was far from ideal.
Because the young mother was frightened, especially in light of her stressful location, she was overly protective of her young charges.
The over-capacity facility could not keep Lou Lou and her puppies indefinitely. Rescue agencies in the area are saturated with dogs and are unable to physically (and financially) save them all.
Lou Lou is the face of a broken society.
Dogs like Lou Lou should be, MUST BE, spayed. Lou Lou should have never had puppies and Lou Lou should have never been dumped at the animal control facility.
Please help educate those around you about the necessity of spaying and neutering, and of being a responsible, devoted pet owner - you may help prevent another "Lou Lou" from being killed.
Rest in Peace Lou Lou and your newborn puppies.
