According to a September 17 report from Yahoo! News, 42-year-old Marilyn Edge, who is accused of murdering her 13-year-old autistic son and 9-year-old daughter over the weekend, asked a California judge to give her the death penalty during a court appearance on Tuesday.
Reports indicate that a judge granted custody of the children to Mark Edge on September 11, and Marilyn Edge promised to hand the children over on Sunday, September 15. Officials say the children were instead found dead in a Santa Ana hotel on Saturday.
Investigators aren't revealing the children's cause of death, but have indicated that poison was found in the hotel room where the bodies were found.
During a court hearing on Tuesday, a judge reportedly asked Marilyn Edge if she wanted her arraignment postponed until October 25, and Edge's only reply was:
“Only if you promise me the death penalty.”
Mark Edge was reportedly informed of his children's death on Sunday, and was allegedly transported to the hospital in duress.
