Mostly nice weekend then storms return

The streak of nice weekends leaked into its third calendar month last week with plenty of sun and low humidity. Depending on your point of view, this weekend will continue the streak. Sunshine for more than half the weekend should suffice to call it a nice weekend, but rain and thunderstorms loom.

High pressure will slide offshore this weekend bringing in south to southwesterly winds to Long Island. This should keep warm temperatures over the area, but nothing excessively hot. A seabreeze will keep this a bit cooler for the south shore and East End for both Saturday and Sunday. Highs on Saturday will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s, and roughly 77-85 for all of Long Island for Sunday. Saturday night will be a relative cool night with lows in the 50s and 60s.

Humidity levels will be tolerable on Saturday and a bit on the high side on Sunday.

Clouds increase on Sunday as a cold front approaches. There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms late in the day. With the front nearby, the chance lingers into the night.

For next week, the humidity levels will be moderate to high, but excessive or heat-wave temperatures are not expected. There's also a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day from Monday through at least Thursday.

The cold front approaches the East coast, but stalls, keeping the rain chance over the area for a while. Some days will have higher chances than others. Behind the front, a pool of cooler air is locked into place for the Midwest, Great Lakes, and High Plains, but that airmass doesn't fully make it to the coast. Long Island is stuck in an unsettled pattern starting Sunday night.
