At the last board meeting of the Glendive School trustees, an agenda item listed consideration for joining the Montana Quality Education Coalition (MQEC). The board took no action on the recommendation of Superintendent Jim Germann who said he had concerns about using state funds to sue the state (Click HERE to listen to the Germann's comments to the board). The MQEC has successfully taken previous action against the State of Montana on behalf of Montana's children and taxpayers. They have again announced their intention to pursue litigation agains the state to restore inflationary funding for public schools.
Many eastern Montana districts have joined in. Those include Sidney, Baker, Colstrip, Forsyth, Bainville, Ekalaka, Fairview, Lambert, Medicine Lake, Plevna, Richey, and Wibaux. Some individual eastern schools have also joined in. those include Birney and Frontier. Most of those schools were also involved during the last round of successful litigation.
In the audio to the left of this column, The Examiner asked executive director Mark Lambrecht about the suits and to respond to the concerns of the Glendive superintendent.
