Most depressing day of the year: Blue Monday 2013

The most depressing day of the year is called "Blue Monday" -- and that's today. Jan. 21 marks the third Monday of January which UK psychologist Cliff Arnall has deemed the day when people are most depressed. According to The Inquisitr, this day has been "dreaded" each year since 2005. So why is the third Monday in Jan. so darn sad?

Well for starters, it's a Monday, perhaps the most despised day of the week. According to Arnall, "this is the time of year where holiday shopping bills are due, New Year’s resolutions are starting to fall apart and the weather is typically miserable" (The Inquisitr).

The most depressing day of the year was not "discovered" by Arnall for people to sit home and feel sorry for themselves. He encourages people to talk about their feelings and to open up about what is bothering them. "Blue Monday" could be an excuse for people to express themselves -- and it really could be a day to raise awareness about depression.

"I’m pleased about the impact it if it means people are talking about depression and how they feel but I’m also encouraging people to refute the whole notion of there being a most depressing day and to use the day as a springboard for the things that really matter in your life," explains Arnall.

Does the most depressing day of the year have you feeling down?
