Most Americans disapprove of Obama's job performance

Elections 2012  -  With eleven months to go before Americans choose their next president, most are disapproving of Barack Obama's job performance.  The latest Wall Street Journal poll shows 48 percent disapprove of Obama while 46 percent approve.  Six percent aren't sure.

With a national unemployment rate of close to nine percent, nearly 25 million Americans don't have a job, have stopped looking for one and/or are under-employed.  Nearly seven of ten voters believe that, under the Obama Administration, the economy is headed in the wrong direction.  Additionally, only two out of ten Americans think the nation is headed in the right direction under Obama's leadership.

Since the end of summer 2011, the president has been proposing a $450 billion "jobs plan" designed to increase government spending as a way to stimulate the economy.  However, most political pundits believe that this proposal had a slim chance of passing in the U.S. Congress from the get-go.

The U.S. House of Representatives is proposing an extension of the payroll tax cut.  Obama opposes the House's version of the measure and stated that he will veto such a bill.
