To thank teachers and school board employees for all they do, the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa has begun offering free annual individual memberships on an on-going basis, to all Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas county teachers, faculty and school board employees. Any employee with a valid school ID from participating counties can enjoy free admission to more than 450 exhibits and displays focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) education for an entire year. Memberships are valid for 12 months from the date of registration. To redeem their free membership, teachers, faculty and school employees must go to MOSI, in person, and present a valid ID or recent pay stub.

"Teachers and school board employees are some of the hardest working people in the nation , and we wanted to show our incredible appreciation of them and their work," said Wit Ostrenko , president of MOSI. "We believe it takes a village to educate the children in our community, and MOSI is an integral part of that village, as the only informal educational institution in Tampa with the sole focus of STEAM learning. We want to make sure that MOSI's resources are available to Bay area teachers."

With their new membership, county school employees will be able to harness the power of their inner geek with access to more than 450 interactive science exhibits and visual displays on natural disasters, physics, astronomy and more. They can experience what it's like to lie on a bed-of-nails in Kids In Charge!, the largest children’s science center in the nation and home to The Saunders Planetarium, and budding inventors can engineer anything imaginable in MOSI’s inventor’s studio, Idea Zone. Additionally, MOSI has teamed up with NASA to create its newest permanent exhibit Mission: Moonbase, where they will be able travel to the moon on a virtual space transport to help operate a lunar colony.

“We’re so grateful to MOSI for making this opportunity available to our hard-working educators,” Pinellas County Schools Superintendent Michael A. Grego said. “Free access to the museum’s amazing exhibits and displays will certainly pique their creativity and infuse their lesson plans with new vigor, thereby extending the benefit to our students.”

Teachers and school employees with a valid Hillsborough, Pasco or Pinellas county school ID or pay stub can sign up for their free membership, in person, starting May 1. Each ID is valid for one individual membership. Free membership does not include IMAX DOME Theatre films, special engagement exhibitions, or the Ropes Course/Zip Line.

"MOSI recognizes the important roles education professionals play in our community, and we appreciate this generous way of acknowledging their impact,” said Pasco County Superintendent Kurt Browning.

On Saturday, May 17, the Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) will offer discounted MOSI admission to the Tampa Bay community for only $5. MOSI is a non-profit, community-based institution and hosts several $5 Days each year to allow community members of all incomes access to MOSI exhibit galleries, including The Amazing You exhibition, Kids In Charge!, the largest children’s science center in the nation, and more than 450 hands-on, interactive exhibits. Admission to $5 Day also includes entrance to the IMAX Dome Theatre film Great White Sharks.

Museum hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. For more information, call 813-987-6000.
