PLANTATION - Following its record-breaking tenth season and critical success of Side Effects, award-winning Mosaic Theatre is proud to announce that individual tickets are now available for Eric Simonson's Lombardi.  If you haven't heard the news, the recent Broadway hit will feature television star Ray Abruzzo in the lead role of Vince Lombardi in the first production of this play in the Southeast US.

"We are incredibly excited and fortunate to bring the talents of Ray Abruzzo to Mosaic," says Executive/Artistic Director Richard Jay Simon.  "We expect big things in our second decade and look forward to expanding our national identity.  I grew up watching Mr. Abruzzo on TV and am a huge fan of The Sopranos and The Practice.  This is a very exciting time for Mosaic Theatre and South Florida audiences.  We will be having six performances per week instead of the usual five to accommodate demand."

Ray Abruzzo is noted for his regular appearances in The Sopranos ("Little Carmine" Lupertazzi), The Practice (Detective Michael McGuire), and Dynasty (John Zorelli).  Other TV credits include Falcon Crest, Murder She Wrote, L.A. Law, House M.D., Night Court, NYPD Blue, Lois & Clark, Law & Order and CSI: NY.  Stage Credits include Quake at Hollywood's Open Fist Theatre and Mauritius at The Pasadena Playhouse.

 

Playing opposite Mr. Abruzzo as (Marie Lombardi) will be multiple Carbonell Award winner and Silver Palm winner Laura TurnbullCarbonell Award winner Antonio Amadeo will play Michael McCormick, a young reporter seeking to find out how Coach Lombardi wins.  The other outstanding actors are: Donte Fitzgerald, Skye Whitcomb and Scott Douglas Wilson.

Don't miss this story of legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi and his wife Marie. The play takes place mostly in November of 1965, when a young journalist from New York City comes to live with the Lombardi family in order to write a story.  Individual tickets are now on sale and we strongly recommend that you buy tickets now as this production will sell out quickly.

MEET & DISCUSS WITH DAN LAURIASunday, Nov. 20, 2011 following 7:00 p.m. performance
Lauria is best known for his portrayal of Jack Arnold, the intimidating and money-conscious father on the TV series The Wonder Years which ran from 1988 to 1993.  In 2010, Lauria appeared as Vince Lombardi in the Broadway play Lombardi.  The play received positive reviews, as did Lauria’s performance, with sports writer Jim Hague commenting, “Lauria truly becomes Vince Lombardi.  You almost forget you’re watching an actor.  He’s Lombardi through and through, down to the wire-framed glasses and intimidating scowl.”  North Bergen football coach Vince Ascolese, who met Lombardi, raved, “I really felt like he was Lombardi.  It was uncanny.”

 
 

MEET & DISCUSS WITH DWIGHT STEPHENSONSaturday, Nov. 12, 2011 following 8:00 p.m. performance.  Hall-of-Famer Dwight Stephenson excelled at center for the Miami Dolphins for eight seasons from 1980 to 1987.  An All-American at the University of Alabama, the 6′ 2′′, 255- pound Stephenson lived up to all his advance notices as a Dolphin.  In just a few years, he was universally recognized as the premier center in the NFL.  He earned both All-Pro and All- AFC recognition five straight years from 1983 to 1987.  He was named the AFC or NFL Offensive Lineman of the Year in various major polls for years.  Stephenson was selected for five straight Pro Bowl games, the first four as a starter.  Stephenson was the starting center in the 1982, 1984 and 1985 AFC championship games and in Super Bowls XVII and XIX.

MEET & DISCUSS WITH PHIL LATZMANSaturday, Nov. 12, 2011 following 3:00 p.m. performance.  Phil Latzman is an award-winning journalist who has spent the last two decades covering both news and sports.  Prior to coming to the Miami Herald, Latzman was sports director for WIOD and WINZ, where he hosted a nightly sports talk show and anchored coverage of both Dolphins and Miami Heat broadcasts.  Phil is currently anchoring and reporting for the Herald’s groundbreaking radio operation.  He’s also been familiar to a quarter million listeners weekly as host of WLRN’s Morning Edition.  He has garnered several honors, including awards from the Associated Press, International Radio Festival and Achievements in Radio.

MEET & DISCUSS WITH JESSE AGLER.  Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 following the 8:00 p.m. performance.  Jesse Agler is the Miami Dolphins’ radio host and also host of “The Finsiders,” the team’s daily radio/web show.  A University of Miami graduate, Jesse has also served as studio host for the Florida Marlins Radio Network, the Miami Hurricanes Radio Network and the Florida Panthers Radio Network.  He is also the co-host of the “Inside the Fins” TV show and of the “Dan Marino Podcast” on Dolphins.com.

MEET & DISCUSS WITH DAVE HYDEThursday, Nov. 17, 2011 following the 8:00 p.m. performance.  Dave Hyde has been a Sun-Sentinel columnist since 1990.  Prior to joining the Sun-Sentinel, Hyde worked as a sportswriter at the Miami Herald from 1985-90.  He attended Miami (Ohio) University.

MEET & DISCUSS WITH JIM BERRYFriday, November 25, 2011 following the 8:00 performance.  Jim Berry is the weeknight Sports Anchor for CBS4 News.  He also anchors CBS4′s Miami Dolphin coverage and Sports Rap.  Jim joined CBS4 in August, 1996 from WBBM-TV, the CBS owned station in Chicago.  Jim is a three-time Best of Miami winner and has won five Emmys. He is also a recipient of the Silver Circle of Excellence award for a distinguished journalism career from the Suncoast chapter of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences.

MEET & DISCUSS WITH JIM “CRASH” JENSEN.  TBA
Nicknamed “Crash,” he played 12 seasons in Miami where his best years came while teamed with quarterback Dan Marino and legendary coach Don ShulaJensen wore #11 because he entered the league as a quarterback.  After Dan Marino was selected in the 1983 NFL Draft, it became evident that Jensen would need to find another way to survive on the Dolphins roster.  He became a human Swiss army knife, with a knack for making tackles on punt and kickoff coverages and converting third down opportunities as a running back or wide receiver in the offensive set with Marino.  In 1989, he caught Dan Marino’s 200th career touchdown pass.  Jim was also the 1988 NFL Special Teams Player of the Year and elected the 2006 Miami Dolphins “Unsung Hero.”

A fan favorite of the Miami Dolphins, Keith played fullback and tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles (1986-1992), Miami Dolphins (1993-1996), New England Patriots (1996-1997), and the New York Jets (1998).  Byars was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1993.  A superb rusher, blocker, and pass receiver, Byars was a vital contributor for every team he played on.  In 1988 he rushed for 517 yards, recorded 71 receptions (ranking him 9th in the NFL), and scored 10 touchdowns.

MEET & DISCUSS WITH JORGE SEDANO.  TBA
Jorge Sedano is the morning show host at 790 The Ticket.  After spending three years hosting “The Third Shift” on Fox Sports Radio, Sedano also served as host of the Miami Heat Pre- game and Post-game shows, and is currently on the FIU Football broadcast as the color analyst.

Will Manso came back home to South Florida when he joined Local 10 in March of 1999.  During his time here, Will has kept busy by working in sports and news, and he’s even dabbled in entertainment.  He is now Local 10′s sports director and also enjoys the chance to serve as host for special shows on Local 10.
