When you think of a theatre, what comes to mind? Popcorn, a big screen, expensive tickets and very big speakers, right? What might not come to mind right away is a place that builds community, a place that sparks creativity, a meeting place for gatherings and a home away from home.
Mos' Art Theatre and Coffee House located at 700 Park Avenue in Lake Park, Florida is just that place. Tucked away in a charming tree lined neighborhood, a whole new theatrical experience awaits you. The young enterprising owners, J.R. Coley and his wife Erin took over the management of Mos' Art Theatre and Coffee House in 2007 and reinvented the typical theatre experience for their patrons. Their mission is to "inspire, educate and connect the community through film, art, music and hope."
The homey atmosphere, which is so inviting, includes couches, a beer and wine bar, fresh popcorn and an Art Gallery. Not only do they show films of all types, including movie premiers of independent films that may be overlooked by larger theatres, but they have also created a venue that hosts children’s theatre, professional theatre and classes. In addition, they host open mic nights, corporate events, weddings, parties and concerts. Included in their rental fee, they promote to nearly 5,000 patrons of the theatre through their email blasts and will even sell tickets for the event.
Their on-site Art Gallery is private and can be used for smaller discussion groups, meetings or lectures.
They offer Cinema memberships to patrons interested in supporting the Arts, which gives members perks throughout the year. Annual Cinema Club Memberships (Charter members) are just $60 dollars, a 6 month membership is $40 dollars and a 3 month membership is $25 dollars. Additional family members can be added for half the cost of the primary memberships.
Benefits of being a member include $4 dollar tickets for regularly scheduled films, excluding operas and ballets, film discussion forums and free admission on members birthdays and anniversaries. Their regularly priced tickets are still less expensive than those purchased at the more main stream theatres.
They provide weekly specials too that are always popular among the members - Monday - 2 for 1 concessions, Tuesday - Free small fountain drink or small popcorn, Wednesday - “Date Night” Bring a guest for free, Thursday - 2 for 1 beverages and Friday through Sunday - a free cup of coffee.
