'Mortal Kombat X' officially announced

Mortal Kombat X” was announced Monday by developer NetherRealm Studios. The folks at NetherRealm released a teaser trailer titled 'Who's Next?' in which series staples, Sub-Zero and Scorpion, face off in an amazingly detailed battle that may or may not show off the game's key components.

In the trailer, it appears as though the use of personal weapons will be making a return to the franchise along with making other makeshift weapons out of the damage you and your fellow 'kombatant' cause to the arena.

Another feature that appears to be returning is the gruesomely terrifying X-Ray maneuvers that made their series debut in "Mortal Kombat 9" (2011) as the fighters in the trailer made several awesome bone breaking hits with an X-Ray spotlight detailing the damage. With the power of next-gen systems, one can only imagine just how much more photo-realistic and disgusting the folks at NetherRealm studios can make these moves appear to be along side the fan favorite fatalities.

Of course, it is too early in the process for us to know exactly what the game is comprised of but the announcement of "Mortal Kombat X" is definitely a welcomed one among fighting game fans; especially after the success of its reboot predecessor in 2011.

"Mortal Kombat X" is currently scheduled for a release sometime in 2015.
