Morrissey protest helps 'Duck Dynasty' return with even bigger ratings (Video)

Duck Dynasty” ratings were through the roof Wednesday night when they returned to A&E with new episodes. According to Entertainment Weekly on Feb. 28, the season premier had 8.6 million viewers. This beat all their own records and all of A&E records. So far, they are the most watched reality show this year! The season 3 premier last night was up 132 percent over last year’s season premier, and they surely should thank Morrissey for the extra publicity that his protest brought to “Duck Dynasty.”

While the British musician is probably not very thrilled over the news, “Duck Dynasty” did very well with the 18-49 age group, inching by “American Idol” and “Modern Family.” He would probably be glad to do as well with his target audience. He has also taken some good-natured ridicule from Jimmy Kimmel about the situation. Kimmel poked fun at Morrissey’s tendency to be negative, “He keeps finding new ways to depress us.”

Kimmel also jokingly explained that he chose to go ahead with “Duck Dynasty’s” appearance over Morrissey’s protest because they have guns which prompted a dramatic response from Morrissey, according to Entertainment Weekly:

The pop singer then countered that Kimmel “found time to jokingly promote gun-ownership — hugely amusing for the parents at Sandy Hook, no doubt. He also promoted his special guests Duck Dynasty – who kill beings for fun. None of the above issues are, of course, as important as Jimmy Kimmel himself, who has finally revealed his show to have an overwhelming loss of meaning. Tune in and relive the intellectual fog of the 1950s.”

Despite his protests, “Duck Dynasty” is enjoying an enthusiastic fan base that is growing in an almost cult-like fashion. You only need to search for “Duck Dynasty” on Twitter or Facebook to see the level of popularity that the show and the family enjoy.
