According to the Canadian Press, Canadian Olympic medalist Denny Morrison of Chetwynd, British Columbia won a silver medal on Sunday in a men's World Cup 1500 metre speed skating competition in Inzell, Germany.

Morrison, who won a silver medal in the men's 1000m and a bronze medal in the men's 1500m at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, posted a time of 1:45.28. American Brian Hansen won the gold medal with a time of 1:44.58 and the Netherlands' Koen Verweij posted a time of 1:45.68 to win bronze.

The fact that the Netherlands only had one speed skater on the podium was interesting because they dominated the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi by winning 24 speed skating medals overall.

Morrison is also a past Olympic gold medalist, as he won the gold medal in the men's team pursuit with Mathieu Giroux of Montreal, Quebec and Lucas Makowsky of Regina, Saskatchewan at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

The World Cup in Inzell is the second last World Cup event this season. The World Cup season concludes next weekend in Heerenveen, Netherlands.
