Next Tuesday, October 8, Morrison Hotel Gallery and Antiquorum Auctioneers will be holding their first-ever joint auction – “The Art of Music – A Premier Auction of Fine Art Music Photography from the Morrison Hotel Gallery at Antiquorum” – at Antiquorum's New York headquarters.
More than 300 items from 44 photographers – including legendary lensmen and women such as Ken Regan, Barrie Wentzel, and Lynn Goldsmith – will be on the block, with “estimates ranging from $1,000 to $25,000” per item.
According to a joint message from longtime friends Morrison Hotel Gallery co-owner Timothy White and Antiquorum President and CEO Evan Zimmermann in the auction's virtual catalog, the extensive collection will be “featuring rare, signed photography and iconic prints from the archives of world renowned photographers specializing in the documentation of music imagery of Blues, Jazz and Rock n' Roll.”
Among the many rare images available include personal photos taken by former supermodel Patti Boyd, who was married to both ex-Beatle George Harrison and Eric Clapton, Robert Whitaker's shots of the Beatles in New York in 1965, and Blondie guitarist Chris Stein's photos of Deborah Harry and Joan Jett.
A preview of the complete collection is open to the public, beginning today through Saturday (10/3-10/5) and Monday (10/7), from 10:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Antiquorum Gallery (595 Madison Avenue). Bidding will start at 4:00 p.m. EST next Tuesday, and “will be available in person, on-line, by absentee bid and by phone to collectors and the general public.”
