This Thanksgiving head out before the turkey is ready to participate in a local Turkey Trot. On November 24, 2011 Morris Township will hold a Trukey Trot for runners who need to burn off some calories in order to replienish later in the day.
A 5k, this run is an USATF vertified course. With mile markers and timers at mile 1, 2 and th finish line. The Turkey Trot begins at 8:30 am, with registration beginning at 7:00am. A 1 mile fun run/walk will begin ten minutes after the 5k begins at 8:40.
Around 9:15 a special kids trurkey trot will begin. Designed for children under 12 years of age, all participants will recieve a ribbon after a sprint across the field. Any child pre-registered will recieve a t-shirt as well.
Not only is this a perfect family event to help celebrate Thanksgiving, but the proceeds will benefit the Morris County Interfaith Food Pantry.The food pantry does not only feed homeless, but provides emergency assistance to 5,000 households in Morris County. This is a valuable lesson for children and adults in what Thanksgiving is really about. Helping out those neghbors who are hungry is the best way to spend the day.
Kick off Thanksgiving with the Morris Township 5k Turkey Trot 2011 is open for registration. The event being held at Ginty field, will have a DJ playing music and lots of kids activities. After all races are complete an awards ceremony will take place. Just think after running a 5k, there will be more room for turkey!
