Morning Buzz: Thank you to those who served

Today we remember and honor those who gave their lives in military service. A Memorial Day service, sponsored locally by the American Legion Post 34 and Flowers by Paulette, will take place at the Lancaster Cemetery on East Lemon Street. The program begins at 11:30 a.m. After the ceremony, graves will be decorated at the Lancaster Cemetery and St Mary’s Cemetery by those in attendance. Post 34 will also decorate those buried at the Stevens Greenland Ceremony, on South Duke Street.

Government offices will be closed today due to Memorial Day. Banks are closed. There will be no regular postal service.

Memorial Day weekend also is the time most pools open. The Lancaster County Park Pool is no different. It is open today noon to 7 p.m. The pool will open daily 10 June. Until then, it will be open on the weekends.

It is still Taco Night at Lancaster Dispensing Company on Monday. They will open at 5 p.m. Carmen & David's Creamery is also open Monday, with regular hours of 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Universal Athletic Club will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday.

The Lancaster Science Factory will demonstrate a model steam engine from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Factory is located at 454 New Holland Avenue.

Knitting can be a relaxing craft. Learn how to knit at the Library! This free session is held every Monday at 6:30 p.m. and is for children and teens. The Library also holds Citizenship Lancaster classes at 6 p.m. every Monday. The sessions are designed to help people become citizens of the US. Registration is required. To register, call the Library at 717-394-2651 ext. 105. The Library is located at 125 North Duke Street.

Not only did the York Revolution beat the Lancaster Barnstormers twice yesterday, but the loss pushed the Barnstormers out of first place. York won the first game 4-1 and the second 5-1. The two teams will meet again today in York. The Barnstormers have now slipped to 18-12 for the season. The Somerset Patriots now lead the league, 19-0.
