Morning Buzz: Muggy day ahead

Mild and muggy. That and some passing storms, possibly strong, is what’s in the forecast today. Temperatures today are expected to reach 77. Currently the morning commute is a foggy one. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that there is a “slight risk of severe thunderstorms with large hail or damaging wind” today.

The Lancaster Barnstormers lead the Freedom Division 17-8 now after yesterday’s daytime win. The Barnstormers won, 5-4, over the Bridgeport Bluefish. The two play again tonight at 7 p.m. This evening will be a special tribute to veterans. The gates open at 4 p.m. today as there will be a pre-game ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Lancaster Seminary is holding a book sale today and Friday. The sale will run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to day and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. The sale will be held on the lower level of the Schaff Library, at the corner of West James Street and College Avenue.

The Bronze Radio Return will be featured tonight at Tellus360. The show is scheduled to begin at at 8 p.m. The doors open an hour prior to the show. There is a $12 cover charge.

Zoetropolis is showing “Finding Vivian Maier,” a documentary. Vivian Maier was a nanny who took hundreds of random secret photographs. Amateur historian John Maloof brings her to life in this film. Tonight’s showing is 6:30 p.m. The cost is $6-$8. The theater is located at 315 West James Street.

Tonight is a busy night for the School District of Lancaster. Carter & MacRae Elementary will hold its Student Success Night at 4 p.m. Wharton Elementary will host the Spring Concert/Student Success Night/Art Show at 5:30 p.m. Wickersham Elementary will hold a PTO/PAC Meeting at 6 p.m. A PAC/SIP Summer Fest & Concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Washington Elementary. Finally, Hamilton Elementary will hold its Spring Musical at 7 p.m.

The Lancaster Bike Club will hold a couple weekly rides tonight. For specific information on the ride, the pace and location, visit www.lancaterbikeclub.net. The rides begin at 6 p.m.

A section of New Holland Avenue will be closed today for road work. The closure stretches from Walnut to Ross and should last through Friday.
