Each week during the high school sports season the Eastern Maine High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc @ easternmainesportsblog@yahoo.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.
2012/2013 Winter season- Week 8- January 21st-January 26th
Female
Morgan Merchant- Jonesport-Beals- Basketball- Had a triple double in a 64-42 Victory over Greenville. She scored 31 points (including 12-15 from the FT line),grabbed 13 rebounds, had 10 steals and dished out 7 assists. She also scored 26 points(including 6-6 from the FT line) had 11 rebounds and 4 steals in 2 quarters of work during a 71-11 Victory over Acadia Christian. Merchant also won athlete of the week on February 11th, 2012 (week 7 of the 2011/2012 winter season).
Runner up
Lexi Larson- Penquis- Basketball- Scored 16 points including hitting the game winning shot with five second left in 40-39 victory over PCHS. Scored 23 points including hitting two big free throws late in the game in 41-38 victory over Penquis. Scored 11 points in 43-36 victory over Lee.
Other nominations
Sable Altvator- Southern Aroostook- Basketball- Scored 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in 53-46 victory over Limestone. Scored 23 points in 40-21 victory over East Grand.
Lily Koffman- Orono- Cross Country Skiing- Placed 5th overall out of 140 female skiers with a time of 17:59 and placed first for sophomores in the Maranacook Wave, 5K skate race at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center.
Courtney Drinkwater- Belfast- Basketball- Scored 16 points on 6-8 shooting in 58-55 victory over Nokomis.
Katrina Lapham- Belfast- Basketball- Scored 14 points including going 6-8 from the FT line in 58-55 victory over Nokomis.
Anna Mackenzie- Nokomis- Basketball- Scored 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in 58-55 loss to Belfast.
Raychel Alley- Hermon- Basketball- Scored 26 points in 43-37 victory over Washington Academy. Scored six points in 45-32 loss to Lee.
