Morgan "The CEO" kicks off her "Dream On Dreamer" tour with a benefit concert Tuesday at the Pure Lounge (1326 U Street, NW) from 6-9 pm. Presented by the DC arts collective Creative Introverts, the event will also feature performances by 202LYC, June Da Kid, and Gahbai. There is a $10 minimum donation fee for entry and additional donation amounts are appreciated. A portion of the profits will benefit a local arts and music program.
Morgan, an uber-talented and industrious rapper, is very serious about her music. Instead of putting her faith in a shady label exec or sleep deprived A&R, Morgan has taken full control of her career. She is utilizing a new website called www.indiegogo.com that allows artists to personally campaign to their audience and gain funding for their projects. Morgan has raised over $2,000 so far, and is looking to collect final donations at the "Dream On Dreamer" event. This is the last week of the fundraising campaign.
Morgan is a videographer, plays saxophone and drums, writes her own music, and can create her own tracks. The Bowie State University graduate and founder of Creative Introverts, believes that music must always contain a message. She aspires to inspire the masses through intelligent lyricism, while not forsaking the relevancy of catchy, hard knocking beats. The video for her single, "Another Day", has already garnered over 40,000 views on YouTube, and has been featured on MTV.com.
With the presence of female artists in the industry at an all-time low, Morgan's goal is to provide balance, and expand the legacy of female MCs. Her four-month, nine-city tour will include headlining performances and showcases. She plans to explore with each city's independent music network, connecting with studios, radio stations, promoters, venues, and supporters. During this time, she will also be recording a new CD entitled “Dream On Dreamer", and documenting the entire experience visually.
