Technology - According to StatCounter's most recent data, a quarter of the world's internet users prefer surfing the web on Google Chrome. Internet Explorer is still the leading browser with about a 39 percent market share, while 24 percent use Mozilla Firefox.
It's been almost seven years since I switched from Microsoft's browser to Firefox but the latter is testing my patience. Firefox, which runs on a much smaller budget than either of its competitors, has largely stayed the same.
Its functionality has worked great all of these years. However, it utilizes Java technology while YouTube has switched to html5 technology. Therefore, when I watch videos using Firefox I often encounter choppy video quality. And clearing the cache only fixes the problem for a couple of days.
YouTube videos display perfectly on Internet Explorer. But I just can't stand IE for other internet stuff.
I tried using Chrome during its infancy. However, all of the application integration simply led to an information overload for me. I use a simple phone. I prefer a simple browser.
With YouTube's html5 switch, it appears Firefox's days are numbered unless Mozilla can adapt the browser to changing times. Many tech simpletons are rooting for its continued, upstart success.
