"I like competition. I like to put on a show. I'm there to do my job like Manny Pacquiao, who I look up to." -- Indian Bañuelos
Don't let the name fool you, Indian Tizoc Bañuelos is 100% Mexican. And just like all the legendary Mexican fighters before him, the promising 22-year-old super bantamweight from Santa Paula, California, intends to leave his mark on the sport of boxing.
Bañuelos trains out of Knuckleheadz Gym in Ventura, California, and is set to debut this Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Oceanview Pavilion in Port Hueneme, California.
Coming from a family of pugilists, Bañuelos lives, breathes and eats boxing. On the week when everyone is sports was talking about Jeremy Lin, here's one guy who definitely did not catch the "Lin-sanity" bug like his idol Floyd Mayweather, Jr. All Bañuelos cares about and watches is boxing, and it's that passion for the sport that sets him apart from your typical debuting boxer.
"I like to think of myself as having my own style," the well spoken Bañuelos told me and added, "I can be an aggressive fighter, and I can also box my opponent."
Not too many debuting fighters get the type of buzz Bañuelos has coming from his gym known for talents such as Victor Ortiz and David Rodela to name a few. This Saturday should provide a nice peek at just exactly what this kid is about.
