Multiple teenagers are suffering from unexplained hiccups and tics at a Massachusetts high school where an investigation is currently underway. More than a dozen students at Essex Agricultural and Technical High School in Danvers have been experiencing bizarre vocal tics or hiccups accoriding to the Salem News. The vocal tics began between November and December of 2012 snd the situation is similar to a scenario that occurred Le Roy High School in upstate New York, where 12 girls suffered from tics similiar to Tourette syndrome.
One parent who knows about dealing with such an issue is Lynn Johnson. A Virginia mom whose daughter, Lauren, was featured in the national news for sneezing up to 25,000 times a day, Johnson said her daughter was eventually diagnosed with pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections, or PANDAS. She said that it is as if one’s autoimmune system is “going defunct.” A series of illnesses, Lyme disease, a vaccination and a severe cold might have triggered her daughter’s condition.
