More than 60,000 protest Obama's attack on religious freedom

The Obama Administration believes that you give up your right to religious freedom when you decide to go into business for yourself. That's why more than 60,000 Americans protested Obamacare yesterday, pledging to support Hobby Lobby, a Christian family-owned crafts company that is fighting Obamacare on religious grounds.

Hobby Lobby, a private company owned by evangelical David Green, is one of more than 47 companies nationwide that have brought Obamacare lawsuits against the administration's health care mandate that forces them to cover contraception, sterilization and abortifacients in their company health insurance plans, or face fines of up to $1.3 million per day.

"We simply cannot abandon our religious beliefs to comply with this mandate," CEO and founder Green explained.

Obamacare, which was intended to provide less-expensive health insurance to all Americans, "[forces] private employers to provide insurance coverage for abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception." In court, the Obama Administration is arguing that "people of faith forfeit their religious liberties once they opt to engage in business."

Re-read that last sentence. The Obama Administration believes that business creators lose their religious freedoms when they decide to go into business for themselves.

Pity Mr. Green, who founded Hobby Lobby more than 40 years ago. Green and his family grew the small, Christian-based business that celebrates Christmas and closes every Sunday into a successful retail chain of 514 stores in 41 states. "We're Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles," Green explained. "[Namely we] (1) run our business in harmony with God's laws and (2) focus on people more than money ... But now, our government threatens to change all of that."

The Obama Administration wants to change more than that. They believe that Americans who build their own businesses or work for themselves forfeit their personal religious freedoms when they choose that form of employment.

Think about the history of our country. Most of our Founding Fathers were self-employed land owners or business owners. Is this really what they intended, that they themselves would lose their God-given religious freedoms, just because they were self-employed?

The fundamental wrongness with Obamacare is that, under the guise of providing less expensive health insurance to all, it undermines the very constitutional fabric and freedoms that America was founded on. The simple, God-given truth is that We, the People, are all entitled to our personal religious freedoms, whatever they may be, regardless of what job we choose.

Hopefully, the Supreme Court will agree.
