Last week marked the first anniversary since the release of Borderlands 2. This means that there has now been over a year’s worth of SHiFT code giveaways for the popular co-op shooter. Gearbox Software President Randy Pitchford revealed on Sept 23 that the over 48 million golden keys have been claimed by Borderlands 2 fans since the game’s initial release.
That makes a lot of free loot handed out to gamers in the course of the past year. Of course, this wouldn’t have been possible if Gearbox Software didn’t offer ongoing support of Borderlands 2 by continuing to reward fans with new gear through golden keys.
SHiFT codes are still handed out to players on a regular basis by the game’s developer. Each code redemption generally grants fans a single golden key which allows them to open up a special loot chest within the game’s city of Sanctuary that provides a rare piece of equipment that will match a character’s currentl level.
Borderlands 2 is out now on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC/Mac.
