More than 30 restaurants participate this January in Charlottesville’s bi-annual Restaurant Week, a celebration of: “3 courses, 3 price points, 1 delicious week.”

During this special week in Charlottesville, patrons dine like royalty with pre fixe meals, ranging from $16 for a two-course meal, to $26 for three courses, and finally $36 for a premium three-course meal. The pre fixe prices do not include tax, gratuity, beverages and alcohol. Each set price usually includes an appetizer, entrée and dessert.

Sometimes, for an additional fee, individual restaurants may pair special beverages, alcohol, beer or wine flights with the pre fixe meal. Each restaurant is unique, so there is no harm asking your server about any other, additional specials.

What's on the menu this year? Chicken and Waffle Sandwich for starters; a Duck Empanada entree; and an opportunity to join the bacon bandwagon with Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies for dessert...don't wait! Call for reservations today.

Between Jan.26 and Feb. 1, take the sting out of this cold, rainy winter. Add some gastro-adventures into your daily eating. What’s on the menu this year? Here's a random sampling.

Try any one of these 2014 Restaurant Week gourmet appetizers: 1) at TEN, Gyoza-Pan Fried Pork Dumplings made with gochugaru, soy, rayu; 2) Tomato-Coconut Soup at Pasture; or 3) at The Southern a Chicken and Waffle Sandwich, composed of an oven fried chicken breast sandwiched between two maple bacon waffles and pepper jelly with choice of slide and slaw.

And the fun doesn’t stop there! Here’s three exciting main dish options: 1) Roasted Sea Scallops with cauliflower flan, caramelized granny smith apples, and a madras curry butter sauce, served at the C&O Restaurant; 2) Duck Empanada with duck, caramelized onions, black currant, green onion and cream cheese at Daluca Bistro and Bar; or 3) Malai Kofta, a lightly fried koftas made from potato, cashew and raisin in a creamy cashew sauce from Himalayan Fusion.

Still hungry? Dessert does not disappoint: 1) Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookie at Brookville; 2) Bourbon Roasted Figs and Vanilla Ice Cream at Fig; or 3) Peanut Pretzel Butter Pie with a pretzel crust, peanut butter mousse, candied pretzels, at The Southern.

Two restaurants are participating with $16 pre fixe menu: Himalayan Fusion and The Southern. Restaurant Week 2014 brings in eight restaurants at the premium $36 three-course meal option: Brookville, C&O Restaurant, Cafee Bocce, Fleurie, Fosset’s at Keswick Hall, L’etoile, TEN, and Zocalo.

The remaining participating restaurants offer the $26 pre fixe menu, including: Ristorante Al Dente, Aberdeen Barn, Bang!, Basil, Bavarian Chef, Burton’s Grill, Blue Light Grill and Raw Bar, DaLuca Café and Wine Bar, Fig, Horse and Hound Grastropub, Maya, The Melting Pot, Michael’s Bistro and Taphouse, Old Mill Room at The Boar’s Head Inn, Orzo, Pasture, The Pointe at the Omni, Rapture, Sal’s Caffe Italia, Shadwell’s Restaurant, Shebeen, Taste of India, and Tempo.
