More than 100 passengers fall ill: Possible norovirus on Caribbean cruise ship

More than 100 people fell ill on the Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas ship during an 11-day cruise. This is another blow to the cruise line who just last month had passengers stranded on a ship without power, according to Fox News on March 8, 2013.

The ocean going vessel pulled into Port Evens with 105 passengers and three of the cruise ship staff sick with a stomach virus, believed to be the norovirus. With this new bad news coming off a Caribbean ship, the company’s stocks fell nearly three percent.

The sick passengers were given over-the-counter medication and according to the cruise line, they responded well to the medication, saying that it helped ease their symptoms.

They also embarked upon extensive cleaning aboard ship before it docked to ward off spreading the illness even more. This must have been a nightmare for the 105 passengers and three staff members, to have a stomach virus at sea.

The Vision of the Seas has departed port with a new boat load of folks aboard on Friday. The cruise ship line said that the ship had been cleaned thoroughly before new passengers boarded.
