More suspects were arrested yesterday for robbery in connection with the Sept. 28 fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Marquise Carruthers, of Marietta. Along with two other suspects who were involved in the stabbing , a total of five teens, ranging from to 14 to 18-years-old, have been arrested. An additional assailant still remains on the loose.
Per the Marietta Police Department (MPD), authorities were called to the Cobb County Transit parking lot off of South Marietta Parkway on Sept. 28 after a young male in his teens was found lying in the grass with a single stab wound to his chest. The young man, Carruthers, was taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after. Brandon Betancourt, 16, and Josue Chapa, 14, were arrested the next day for the stabbing. Both have been charged as adults.
As authorities put the details of the investigation together, Demetres Plasencio, 18, Jordan Billinsly, 18, and a unnamed minor, 16, were also arrested and charged with robbery. Allegedly, Caruthers, along with Plasencio, Billinsly, and the unidentified 16-year-old, robbed Betancourt the day before the stabbing. Authorities believe that Betancourt and Chapa retaliated when they spotted Carruthers at the bus station parking lot.
An additional suspect, 19-year-old Samario Koger, has also been charged in connection with the robbery, but police have not yet found him. MPD urges anyone with any information on Koger's whereabouts to call the Marietta Police Anonymous Tip Line at 770-794-6990.
