One of the most interesting characters on ABC’’s new fantasy series “Once Upon A Time in Wonderland” has got to be Jafar. He would appear to be the villainous equivalent to Rumplestiltskin from “Once Upon A Time,” the show from which this was one was spun off. According to an Oct. 16 report on Headlines & Global News, there are reasons for Jafar’s villainous ways.
Naveen Andrews plays the diabolical wizard. Show runner Adam Horowitz said in a TV Guide interview that Jafar isn’t necessarily a bad guy because he enjoys it. There is deep pain behind his actions and as with all of the characters, that backstory will be revealed.
What we know so far is that Jafar saved Cyrus when he fell from the cliff and is holding him captive as Jafar tries to wrest Alice’s three wishes away from her. In the Disney version of “Aladdin”, Jafar wanted the genie’s powers in order to become the most powerful magician in the entire world. Is that still his motivation? Chances are it goes deeper than that.
According to ABC.com, during the next episode we’ll get a glimpse into how Alice and Cyrus fell in love. You can get a look at some of the pictures from the episode here.
Tune in to see more of “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” which airs Thursdays at 7 p.m. on ABC.
