This season, Copper Mountain concentrated its capital improvements on infrastructure enhancements, which the ski area says will set the stage for future on-mountain improvements. This year’s improvements for the 2010-2011 season include: A 25 percent increase in snowmaking, a 40 percent increase in free parking in the expanded Corn Lot, additional parking at the base of Union Creek for easier access to Copper’s beginner’s area, and a re-design at Union Creek and The Schoolhouse to make the flow from one place to another – rentals to ski school, for instance – more logical and simple.

Copper has also expanded its superpipe with a new 22-foot pipe-cutting “Zaug” that gives the area a year-round, Olympic-sized superpipe. “With all of last season’s Olympic qualifiers out of the way and Vancouver in the bag, many of the top competitors can bring their polished runs to Copper’s new and improved, Olympic-worthy superpipe. Many top athletes agree that the level of riding and amplitude they can get on a larger pipe makes a world of difference,” says Copper’s public relations guru David Roth. Roth also mentioned something about the cradle, and the fact that it will rock.

For the kids, Copper has “rebooted” a few of the kids’ trails (Alligator Alley and the area above the bunny hill), as well as making a small kid-friendly corral by the existing tubing hills. Now kids can check out the tree trails and spot a cheetaphant or two, whilst the tinier ones can still go for a spin in the tubing carousel.

There’s also a new Bricks 4 KIDZ concept store that should be open for the start of the winter season in the Village Square building. Bricks 4 KIDZ offers project-based programs designed to teach principals and methods of engineering and architecture to children ages 3-12+ using LEGO bricks.
