More pancakes and maple sugaring events await at Lake Metroparks Farmpark

Now is the time to enjoy Ohio freshly-made maple syrup. The maple sugaring season only lasts from 4-8 weeks and soon it will be gone for another year. Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Kirtland, Ohio is offering a special Maple Sugaring Weekend on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10 filled with family-friendly and educational activities that are sure to be fun for all - and a pancake breakfast. Kirtland, Ohio is approximately a 30 minute drive from Cleveland.

Maple Sugaring Weekend Among the hands-on activities being offered that visitors can participate in are horse-drawn sap collecting, hand tree tapping of the sap, maple leaf crafts, making a model bark bucket (called a mokuk), making maple flavored ice cream, learning how to make maple syrup in your own backyard using your trees and watching maple candy- making demonstrations.

In addition, there will be maple syrup production demonstrations, sugar bush and maple conservation tours and a special "History of Maple Syrup" exhibit.

Make sure you get your free samples of real maple syrup and maple sugar.

For those creative visitors, you can try your hand at making maple stirs (for a small additional fee).

One hundred per cent pure maple syrup made at Lake Metroparks Farmpark will be available for purchase at the Woodland Science Center on the property and the gift shop.

An Interesting Maple Syrup Fact : The maple-flavored syrups that people buy in the grocery store have less than one per cent real maple syrup in them.

While at Lake Metroparks Farmpark be sure not to miss seeing the newborn lambs, piglets and goats and stop in the Visitors Center to see the Quilts 2013 exhibit featuring more than 200 handmade quilts.

Pancake Breakfast The Farmpark's J & J Cafe is serving a pancake breakfast during the Maple Sugaring Weekend on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Yes, you can get pancakes all afternoon. Farmpark admission is required to attend the breakfast.

Admission to Lake Metroparks Farmpark is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors (60+) and $4 for children (2-11). This admission permits you access to all regular Farmpark activities and to the Maple Sugaring Weekend activities. There is an additional charge for the pancake breakfast. Cost is $7 for ages 12 and over and $4 for ages 2-11.

Maple sugaring events will also be offered on March 16 and March 17.
