More on 'Vampire Diaries' spin-off and the future of other CW shows

"The Vampire Diaries" is currently airing on Channel 6 in Tempe, but more news has come out about the potential spin-off series being planned by the CW. On Sunday, Jan. 13, From Inside The Box shared new details about the plot of the series. TV Guide also shared new comments made about several other CW programs. Klaus will be at the center of the new spin-off series. Mark Pedowitz, the man in charge at the CW, spoke about the series and how it came about. He said the following, according to From Inside The Box:

"The genesis of that came from a conversation with Warner Bros. and Peter Roth at the time. I'm a big believer if you have something that's working and you can incubate [it], it's a good way to get pilots on the air," Pedowitz told reporters. "Kevin Williamson said 'Let Julie take a run at it, it's her vision.' ... We're basically going to go and focus on the Original family. The [lead] character will be Klaus. Hopefully some of his siblings will come along. Klaus is just a great character and the Original family has such great dysfunctional family dynamics, we felt that was a great way to take the show."

Phoebe Tonkin will bring her character Hayley to the new series. She has appeared as the character on "The Vampire Diaries" this season. She was on last season's "The Secret Circle" before it was canceled.

As for other series on the network, no decision has been made about the future of "90210," "Hart of Dixie," or "Supernatural" yet, according to TV Guide. Fans will get a proper send off of "90210" if that series is set to end next season. "Hart of Dixie" is meeting expectations this season, and it has strong DVR and VOD ratings. "Supernatural" has seen a jump in ratings on Wednesday nights with its pairing of "Arrow" bringing in strong numbers.

"Beauty and the Beast" is also doing well for the network. Pedowitz said the following about the series:

"We're very pleased with it creatively. It's on par with Secret Circle in terms of total viewers. Based on the passion of fans, we think we have something."
