More on the bold cat who heroically defended her little boy

On Wednesday, Tara that cat became an internet sensation after her Bakersfield, Calif., guardian posted a YouTube video of her boldly defending a little boy from a vicious dog attack.

Four-year-old Jeremy, the child on the receiving end of the attack, has since spoken out about his feline hero, telling KERO News, "Tara is my hero." Tara has been a member of the Triantafilo family since 2008, and she has always had a special fondness for Jeremy.

Her protective instincts were captured on the family's home surveillance cameras on Tuesday - the neighbor's dog, who had escaped from their yard, can be seen sneaking behind a parked vehicle and then lunging at the boy's leg. As soon as the dog tries to pull the child off of his small bike, Tara springs into action and chases the dog away.

Jeremy's mother can be seen briefly tending to her child and then running away - the dog was coming back and she left her little boy to block the dog from attacking again. Though the attack was brief, it did leave Jeremy with enough injuries on his leg to require stitches.

If not for Tara's quick action, things could have been so much worse.

According to multiple sources, the dog, described as an eight-month-old Labrador retriever/Chow mix, will be euthanized following a 10-day quarantine.
