Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q

An earlier article provided an introduction to a few of the best barbeque restaurants in Birmingham. As any Alabama resident knows, our state is home to some of the best slow-cooked BBQ in the Southern tradition. Here are a few more of the best Birmingham has to offer.

Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q
Developed by a father and son team 25 years ago, Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q  is as much a family affair as it is a Birmingham tradition. Jim 'N Nicks features pork, chicken and brisket slow-cooked over a hickory wood fire. Try the Pitmaster's Plate - three spares, your choice of three hickory-smoked meats and your choice of two trimmings.

Don't miss the made-from-scratch cheese biscuits and fresh-squeezed lemonade. Everything at Jim 'N Nicks is house-made.

Dreamland Bar-B-Que Ribs
Since 1958, the original Tuscaloosa location of Dreamland Bar-B-Que Ribs has maintained a legendary status among Alabama lovers. Get the same great taste without the drive at the Birmingham location within walking distance of UAB. Your choice of full or half slab ribs, rib sandwich or half a chicken comes with Dreamland's signature sauce and a few slices of white bread. Homemade sides include slaw, macaroni and cheese, potato salad and baked beans.

Sweet Bones Alabama
A relative newcomer to the Birmingham scene, Sweet Bones Alabama has quickly become a favorite among choosy barbeque lovers. With seven sauces to choose from, the spare ribs or baby backs are sure to please. Served with slaw and a choice of 15 sides, you're sure to find something you love. A few Sweet Bones favorites are rosemary smashed potatoes, fried green tomatoes and sweet potato caserole. Not in the mood for ribs? Try chicken, pulled pork or brisket instead. And don't forget to save room for the Alabanana pudding.

You should definitely try Moe's BBQ. They have several locations, the only one I have visited is where Lakeview Oyster House was. It is absolutely delicious. Their side items are done right.
