The network bosses are in full damage control as they scramble to shore up their primetime schedules before November sweeps. The latest show to meet the TV graveyard is the resurrection of “Ironside” starring Blair Underwood. The series received a mild marketing campaign but certainly not as visible as that of “The Black List” which appears to be thriving. “Ironside” was one of two poorly performing shows that were yanked from the airwave immediately. Over the next few months, NBC will program new episodes of “Dateline” in the 10 p.m. slot “Ironside” occupied then a few holiday specials before the new series “Chicago PD” premieres in 2014.
The network has one final episode of “Ironside” scheduled to air Wednesday October 23. Another NBC shows still in danger of cancellation include “Sean Saves the World,” starring Sean Hayes. “Welcome to the Family” was added to the cancelled list. It joins “Ironside” on its way to TV’s great beyond. Also in the wake of the cancellations, NBC has announced the premiere date of the fifth season of “Community”. The popular NBC sitcom will kick off its fifth season starting January 2, 2014 with back-to-back episodes.
