I met a girlfriend at Ma Cha Teahouse + Gallery on Monroe Street in Madison, WI for a couple of hours to visit. It was a Thursday afternoon and the place was busy when I arrived. I ordered the Kabuse Sencha tea and Thai Basil Lemon Oat cookies.
I quietly walked around the house and located my friend upstairs in one of the rooms. She was sitting on a cushion on the floor with her shoes off and legs curled-up in a comfortable position. I removed my shoes and sat on a cushion across the table from her. We began to talk as I poured my tea.
A few minutes later two bowls of food arrived that my friend had ordered. Ma cha Teahouse recently changed their menu and when my friend placed her order she thought she had ordered one bowl of food. My friend asked if I would like to have the extra bowl and of course I said yes.
The rice bowl I had consisted of white rice, scallion, black sesame, shitake mushrooms and bok choy. It came with a soy sauce mix on the side, but I decided to eat it plain. Yes, it did taste plain, yet it was good. The portion size was good, as I felt very comfortable upon finishing.
The Kabuse Sencha tea had a wonderful green tea flavor. The Thai Basil & Oat cookies were excellent, which seemed to have a hint of lemon.
Even though the place was busy the atmosphere was very quiet and peaceful. The service was excellent. I recommend the tea, cookies and rice bowl as all tasted wonderful and are reasonably priced.
