More Hunting Techniques of the Bigfoot, Part 3

Continued from Part 2

After checking out the nested area near the water hole, Mark and I started our day search for the area where the two sets of girls had spotted the black Bigfoot which had the white blaze of hair between the shoulders. Mark had located the area once before, and it did not take us long to relocate the meadow in which the nest sat in the middle.

What? The nest was in the middle of the meadow? That can't be Bigfoot. Bigfoot hides and they build their nests in densely forested areas. Why would Bigfoot build a nest in the middle of a grassy meadow? This was strange, but as we investigated, it started to make sense.

The nest was a large pit cut nearly five feet into the ground. Again, the dirt had been removed which gave not tell-tale signs of a pit in the middle of the meadow. Over the hole a network of logs and branches were constructed. These limbs were woven together to the point where the nest looked like a large pile of wood. Upon close inspection, you could see through the branches into the hole or vice versa. It was not meant to be a shelter. It was another hunting blind.

The strategy of this ambush point was quite different than anything we had seen before. It takes into account the behavior of elk to move into meadows during the late evenings to graze on the grass during the night. During the first part of the evening, the elk will stays near the edge of the forest, but later on they move into the middle of the meadow for protection.

To increase the Bigfoot’s hunting success, they know they cannot hang around the edge of the meadow without being detected. If the elk come in on the other side of the meadow, the Bigfoot would have little to no chance of surprise, and have to result in chasing the prey more than likely an unsuccessful effort. However, by already being in the middle of the meadow, the Bigfoot can catch the elk off guard because the elk will be busy watching the edge of the forest for predators.

This gives us great insight as to the intelligence of the Bigfoot. They have the ability to analyze their prey’s habits and weaknesses to plan strategic and tactical efforts to ensure their hunting success. This is more than an ape or chimpanzee intelligence. It is on our level of thought.
