More green homes built in Chula Vista market

Veranza townhomes are now on the list of green homes in Chula Vista. The two story residences built by Cornerstone Communities opened in early February at Eastlake Summit near the SR 125.

Cornerstone decided to make the deal easier to finance for home buyers by offering their own New American Mortgage to buyers that found a home at the right price to take. Fixed mortages that last 15 years and 30 years improve home ownership opportunities.

Workers the city has planned on taking in in greater numbers have a lasting opportunity to find a home in a green market that grows more stable with the addition of the townhomes in the gated Eastlake community.

Building up the number of green homes is not a slow enterprise in the city partly due to an SDG&E financial incentive program called California Advanced Homes. All the over 110 homes have to have a sustainabe living performance at least 15 percent above the California Building Efficiency Standards for residences. Financial incentive savings start at $75 a kilowatt.

The higher the performance the builder accomplishes by building a green home, the higher the financial incentives SDG&E pays out.

Green roofs make a difference in the energy bills. Builders put in a cool roof using Eagle Energy Star tiles and added radiant barrier roof sheathing.

One Advanced Home program goal is to make putting in low-e windows a construction practice. Cornerstone's workers put in dual glazed vinyl windows.

The appliances installed in the advanced homes are also part of the basic energy saving plan. Homes residents can use a Control 4 home control system to manage are fit out with tankless water heaters and Energy Star dishwashers with DuraWash.

Double garages attached to some of the townhomes gave a small lift to a housing market in a city that has a policy of building balanced communities that offer homes to both the well off and the typical worker that earns a lower income.
