The Great Taste of the Midwest is quite popular.
If you find yourself unable to get tickets for The Great Taste of the Midwest this year (which sold out in a matter of hours back in May), which occurs this August 14th, 2010 at Olin-Turville Park, fret not. Madison is offering almost 20 pre-parties at local taverns and restaurants that will feature the beers and brewers that are present at this year's beerfest. These pre-parties occur on the eve of The Great Taste of the Midwest and include the following places:
The Upland Brewing Company will be pouring its Presentation Pils, Oktoberfest Lager, Wild Sour Lambic, Baddest Elmer’s Bourbon Barrel Baltic Porter, and Upland Wheat Ale. Master brewer Caleb Stanton will be present from 8 PM- 11 PM. Festivities start at 2 PM.
•Barriques Coffee Trader
Starting at 7PM, the Hinterland Brewery will be pouring its Amber Ale, Cherry Wheat, Luna Stout, Bourbon Barrel Scottish Ale, and Pale Ale. Master brewer Joe Karls will be present as well.
The Shelton Brothers Importers will be offering Dieu du Ciel! Aphrodite of Dieu du Ciel in Quebec, De Ranke Saison de Dottingnies of Brouwerij De Ranke in Belgium, Mikkeller Monk's Brew of De Proef Brouwerij in Belgium, Serafijn Pale Ale of Microbrouwerij Achilles in Belgium, Kulmbacher Mönchshof Kellerbräu of Kulmbacher Brewery in Germany, Kaimai Porter's Rye Ale of Kaimai Brewing in New Zealand, Christoffel Bier Blond and Christoffel Wijs of Sint Christoffel Bier in the Netherlands, Nøgne-Ø Imperial Brown Ale of Nøgne-Ø in Norway, and Haandbryggeriet Odin's Tipple of Haandbryggeriet in Norway. Festivities start at 5 PM
Starting at 6 PM, Central Waters Brewing Company will be pouring Bourbon Barrel Stout, Bourbon Barrel Barley Wine, Peruvian Morning Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout, Illumination Double IPA. Master brewer and co-owner Anello Mollica will be attending. Shorts Brewing Company will be pouring Black Licorice Lager (schwarzbier), Good Humans (imperial brown), Huma-Lupa-Licious (IPA), and Key Lime Pie.
•The Cooper’s Tavern
Starting at 6 PM, Summit Brewing Company will be sampling its Summit Hefe Weizen, Summit India Pale Ale, Summit Oatmeal Stout, Summit Cooper’s Tavern Ale, and Summit Unchained Belgian Golden Style Ale. Founder/owner Mark Stutrud will be in attendance.
Starting at 9 PM, Pearl Street Brewery will be offering its Dankenstein Imperial IPA, El Hefe Bavarian Style Hefeweizen, Pearl Street Pale Ale, and Smokin’ Hemp Porter. Master brewer and owner Joe Katchever will be in attendance. Flying Dog Brewery will offer Tire Bite Golden Ale, Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale, and 20th Anniversary Raging Bitch (Belgian IPA).
•Drackenberg's Cigar Bar
Starting at 3 PM, Potosi Brewing Company will offer Potosi Belgium Wit, Potosi Grandy Dancer Porter, Gold Old Potosi, Bourbon Barrel Potosi Scotch Ale, and Snake Hollow India Pale Ale. Master brewer Steve Buszka will be in attendance from 7-11 PM.
•Francesca’s al Lago
Starting at 5 PM, Goose Island will be serving 312 (wheat ale), Matilda (Belgian pale ale), and Sofia (Belgian farmhouse ale).
•Glass Nickel Pizza-Atwood
Starting at 6 PM, Founders Brewing will be serving Curmudgeon (an Old Ale made with molasses), Centennial IPA, Red’s Rye Pale Ale, Kentucky Breakfast (bourbon barrel aged stout), and Double Trouble (imperial IPA).
•The Haze Asian + American BBQ
Starting at 6 PM, Lagunitas Brewing Company will be serving Lagunitas IPA, Hop Stoopid Ale (IPA), Little Sumpin’ Sumpin Ale (wheat ale), Gnarly Wine (barley wine), an even a pinot noir barrel-aged saison.
•Jordan’s Big 10 Pub
Starting at 9 PM, New Belgium Brewing will be serving Eric’s Ale (a sour beer), Berlinerweiss (imperial Berliner Weisse), Hoptober (golden ale), and Ranger India Pale Ale. Stone Brewing Company will be serving Arrogant Bastard Ale, Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale, and Stone 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA.
There is a $15 admission charge for this "Great Taste of the West" party.
•King and Mane
Starting at 4 PM, New Holland Brewing will probably be serving the hoppy Mad Hatter and/or the spicy Hopquila.
•The Mason Lounge
Staring at 4 PM, Crispin Cider will be serving Fox Barrel Pear Cider and Clyde (an unfiltered heirloom apple-wine that has been aged in Chardonnay barrels).
Starting at 2 PM, Bell’s Brewery will be serving Amber Ale, Batch 9000 (12.5% ABV double American stout), Deb’s Red, Hopslam, Kal-Haven, La Batteur (Bière de Garde), La Pianiste (Bière de Garde), Oberon (wheat ale), Sparkling Ale (made with Belgian Abbey yeast and Pacific Northwest hops), Wild One (a blended sour brown ale), and 25th Anniversary.
•The Malt House
Starting at 7 PM, O’so Brewing Company will be serving Picnic Ants (farmhouse ale), Black Scotch Ale, Dominator Doppelbock, Bourbon Barrel Night Train, and Hog Whoppin 7% IPA. Master brewer and founder Marc Buttera will be pouring beers from 7-11 PM.
Starting at 3 PM, Lake Louie Brewing will be serving Arena Premium, Brother Tim’s Tripel, Coon Rock Cream Ale, Tommy’s Porter, Warped Speed Scotch Ale, and Louie’s Reserve Scotch Ale.
Master brewer Tim Wauters will be pouring these beers.
•The Old Fashioned
Starting at 5 PM, Red Eye Brewing will be serving El Tormento, an imperial red ale made with 6 types of hops. Master brewer and owner Kevin Eichelberger will be in attendance. Dave’s BrewFarm will be serving BrewFarm Select (golden lager) and Matacabras (strong ale). Brew master and owner Dave Anderson will be in attendance.
•Vintage Brewing Company
Starting at 5:30 PM, Vintage Brewing Company of Madison, Wisconsin will be serving Weiss Blau, Rhine Heights (alt), Sister Golden Ale (kolsch), Derby Girl (English-style bitter), India Pale Ale, Scaredy Cat (oatmeal stout), McLovin’ Irish Red (served nitrogen-conditioned), Alpentraum (weizenbock brewed with smoked malt), Rye of the Tiger (amber ale brewed with rye malt), Palindrome (APA), and DeVille (Abbey strong ale). Master brewer Scott Manning will be in attendance.
Furthermore Beer will be serving Proper (English ale), Knot Stock (pale ale brewed with cracked black pepper), Oscura (coffee-infused Mexican dark lager), Three Feet Deep (Irish stout brewed with peated malt), Fatty Boombalaty (Belgian ale), Thermo Refur (made with red beets), and Makeweight (triple pale ale). Master brewer Aran Maddan will be in attendance.
There will also be a tasting of Unibroue beers from 7-8 PM on Tuesday, August 10th; tickets for this event are $10 and available at Steve’s Liquor.
